Virtue has invested considerably building a leading live broadcast
system to deliver the reliability and reporting required when managing
large volume of streams over a large number of streaming servers.
The Tornado Virtue BCM features include:
- Real time management of all your live video/ audio feeds
- Full load balancing and non-degradation splitting
- End viewer quality management
- Globally load balanced
LIVE BROADCAST TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
Traditional splitting must always be configured in a
tree fashion. This means that if there is a failure 'up-stream',
then everything downstream of the failure point becomes unavailable.
If the failure point is the stream injection point then there is
a 100% outage of the broadcast.
|
With the Tornado Virtue BCM the 'splitting' is
a mesh configuration, so if there is a failure point on the
network then this point (and only this point) will experience
an outage, since the network will re-route the streams via another
node in the mesh. |
This re-routing is done dynamically, and can be configured on the
fly without having to re-start any parts of the network. It also
supports mulitpoint stream injection to account for the injection
node failure problem.
Further, since the health of the network and performance metrics
are all aggregated by the Broadcast Manager suite, any failure or
minor problem (which could lead to a partial or full failure), is
recognised immediately. In a large network, such as the Tornado
Virtuecast Network, it is impractical to monitor the health of every
host on the network with any level of detail. The Tornado Virtue
BCM allows us to see faults as soon as they occur, allowing us to
provide the best levels of availability possible.
